Laurie being Jo’s first boy comes right out of Laurie’s own mouth. That the treatment of him throughout the story, until he returns home a man, is what she aspired to do more of at Plumfield is sooo absent in the movies, which must certainly contribute to any anti-Fritz sentiment .
