In Little Women, there are many moments when it is said that Jo worships boys. Jo gets along better with boys than she does with girls. In Little Women, chapter “literary Lessons” Jo meets this young man who tells her about this female writer who makes lots of money writing junk novels. Jo gets intrigued by the idea of making money by writing trash. That is what Jo calls sensational stories, trash, and it said that Jo gravitated to the boys’ company because she had never grown out of her love for lads. Then another example is chapter calls where Jo and Amy go to visit the neighbourhood families, and Amy gets all desperate because they’re supposed to greet and chat with the adults, but 20-something-year-old Jo runs to play with the boys in almost every house. These things are not in the adaptations. We see Laurie and Jo being romanticized, but they lack this fondness that Jo has for boys in general. People want Jo to be this writer feminist, but this part of her loving lads is not something that is given a lot of attention, even though it explains such fundamental things as why Jo rejected Laurie and why she wanted to start a school for boys.
