How Greta Gerwig Manipulates Her Audience (To Hate Jo and Friedrich)
Some best comments were left on my YouTube channel recently.
Well said! I feel like Greta Gerwig totally missed the mark with Jo’s ending in the 2019 movie. I’ve always felt that so much of “Little Women” is about discovering that your future may not look like how you thought it would, but can be wonderful and fulfilling. Not once did I ever feel like book Jo compromised her dreams or happiness. In fact, I think Professor Bhaer is instrumental in helping Jo achieve all that she wants and more. It really is a shame that Gerwig changed the ending in what appears to be some modern feminist statement. I sometimes wonder if she even bothered to really read the book at all. -Startobe5394

I am a feminist. And that is why I can say, to everybody out there who believes Jo to be a feminist that gets completely butchered by her husband: Jo March in Little Women isn’t a feminist. Jo Bhaer in Jo’s Boys is a feminist. Being a feminist isn’t equal to hating men. Jo Bhaer is a feminist, she has understood that being tender as a woman isn’t something to despise. That is why I dislike the movie’s portrayal of Jo, because it misses Alcott’s Jo March as a character.
